Serbian Nationals Safely Evacuated from the United Arab Emirates

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in coordination with the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the national airline Air Serbia, successfully organized the first special flight from Dubai, which safely brought a group of Serbian nationals from the United Arab Emirates to Belgrade’s Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport this evening. The group comprises 262 passengers, including children traveling with their parents.

This represents another evacuation flight organized for Serbian citizens who found themselves in the Middle East region. State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Damjan Jović and representatives of the Ministry traveled early this morning to the United Arab Emirates to coordinate the process and provide the necessary assistance to our citizens.

Upon arrival in Dubai, State Secretary Jović emphasized that, following the instructions of the President of the Republic and the Government of the Republic of Serbia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and our national airline Air Serbia will continue evacuating Serbian nationals from war-affected areas of the Middle East.

“As soon as safe air corridors to the United Arab Emirates were opened, our national airline Air Serbia became one of the first airlines in the world to carry out an evacuation flight. Until now, only domestic airlines from the United Arab Emirates had been operating on this route. Several hundred of our citizens had already been evacuated on those flights,” Jović stated.

He underlined that this is the first evacuation flight conducted in the war-affected zone of the Middle East.

“I believe that in the coming days there will be additional flights, as there is significant interest among our citizens who have found themselves in difficult circumstances in the United Arab Emirates and neighboring countries. We will make every effort in the days ahead to ensure that every Serbian citizen who wishes and needs to be evacuated from the war-affected area is safely transferred to Serbia,” Jović stressed.

The State Secretary noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, working at full capacity together with our national airline, will continue round-the-clock efforts in the coming days to evacuate Serbian citizens from Bahrain, Kuwait, and Qatar via Riyadh, as well as from the United Arab Emirates through evacuation flights to Belgrade.

Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the United Arab Emirates Vladimir Marić emphasized that thousands of Serbian nationals reside in that country and that, following today’s flight, preparations for additional flights will continue. He added that Serbian citizens may expect another special flight already by the end of this week.
