Selaković: Serbia is committed to strengthening the overall cooperation with São Tomé and Príncipe

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Nikola Selaković, met tonight with the Prime Minister of São Tomé and Príncipe, George Bom Jesus, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Diaspora, Edita Ten Jou.

Confirming that our two countries have established close and friendly relations since the days of the SFRY, Selaković said that Serbia was committed to nurture and strengthen overall relations with São Tomé and Príncipe.

The Minister pointed out that intensified political dialogue and regular high-level meetings certainly contributed to better mutual cooperation and understanding, but also that it was necessary to establish the practice of holding political consultations between the ministries of foreign affairs.

The head of Serbian diplomacy stated that, for the further development of cooperation, an important element was the strengthening of the contractual and legal basis, and in this sense, he expressed satisfaction that he and Minister Ten Zhu had signed the Agreement on the abolition of visas for diplomatic and official passport holders.

Selaković thanked São Tomé and Príncipe for its principled support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia, at the same time expressing his belief that this friendly country would maintain such a position, but also the expectation that our country would be able to count on its support in international forums.

Selaković stated that it was necessary to work on strengthening economic cooperation, stressing that there was potential in numerous areas.

In addition to this, the interlocutors discussed the improvement of educational and sports cooperation, and Selaković spoke in particular about the scholarship programme for foreign students - "World in Serbia", stating that the number of scholarships for students from this country, who are welcome to study at universities in Serbia, had increased.
