Selakovic: Serbia attaches great importance to friendship with African countries

01. Dec 2021.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia gave a video-statement at the final ceremony of the “Biennale of Luanda – Pan-African Forum for the Culture of Peace”, emphasizing that our country fostered friendly relations with countries of the African continent ever since the founding of the Non-Aligned Movement.

Minister Selakovic expressed satisfaction with the fact that by participating in the Biennale, Serbia had the opportunity to present its culture and heritage through virtual exhibitions.

Selakovic said that Serbia supported the activities and work done by UNESCO, stressing that exceptional results were achieved by joint efforts in the framework this international organization.

Furthermore, the Minister pointed to the tendencies threatening to slow down and compromise the work of UNESCO, such as the politicization of cultural heritage and historical revisionism carried out through education policies, and stated that this must not be allowed.

The head of Serbian diplomacy also reflected on the challenge that the whole world is facing, that is, the coronavirus pandemic, noting that the example of unequal access to vaccines showed that there were still differences between certain countries.

“The Republic of Serbia endeavours to help its traditional friends in the fight against the pandemic, and within the scope of our capacities, we selflessly provided vaccine donations to those who needed it the most”, said Minister Selakovic adding that we will continue to foster friendly relations with African countries, especially through the "World in Serbia" student scholarship programme, because young people are actors of social transformation and bridges that bring us together.
