Đurić at the Second Meeting of the Balkan Peace Platform

23. Jan 2026.
Following his participation today in the second meeting of the Balkan Peace Platform in Istanbul, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Marko Đurić, stated that this format represents an authentic Balkan initiative, whose added value lies precisely in the fact that it is not organized in European Union member states by an external, non-Balkan actor.

“We must be prudent and wise and create an environment and an atmosphere of trust, in order to avoid being drawn, amid this global and geopolitical storm, into a new cycle of deteriorating relations,” Đurić said, adding that it is positive that 2026 is beginning with regional dialogue.

The Minister noted that, in addition to the most important international topics, the meeting also addressed concrete plans aimed at improving transport connectivity, enhancing cooperation in the fields of education and science, as well as issues related to European integration.

Đurić also held a separate meeting with the Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hakan Fidan, during which they discussed ways in which the two countries could contribute to the stabilization and preservation of stability in the region. They considered opportunities for further strengthening cooperation, particularly in the economic sphere, as well as for building mutual trust. He paid particular attention to the situation in Kosovo and Metohija, explicitly underscoring the need to protect the fundamental human rights of the Serbian people.

The Minister emphasized that Serbia approaches these matters from noticeably clear positions, grounded in international law and in its national interests—namely, the preservation of peace and stability, and continued economic growth and development.

“I spoke very candidly about my view of the dynamics of Serbia’s European integration, and I will discuss this openly later this afternoon with Members of the European Parliament who are visiting our Republic,” Đurić concluded.
