Đurić from New York: An Important Opportunity for Serbia’s Voice to Be Heard at the UN on Respect for the Principles of Territorial Integrity and Sovereignty

26. May 2026.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Marko Đurić stated from New York City that, in light of the ongoing historic visit of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić to the People's Republic of China, Serbia has been accorded yet another distinction in the context of Serbian-Chinese relations.

“Today in New York, the Serbian delegation is participating in a session of the United Nations Security Council, which is chaired this month by the People’s Republic of China. At China’s invitation, our delegation will address the Security Council today during a thematic session dedicated to the principles of the UN Charter, international law, and the preservation of a global order founded on multilateralism,” Đurić emphasized.

He stressed that it is important for Serbia that its voice be heard within the United Nations, particularly in the Organization’s highest body, especially with regard to respect for the principles of territorial integrity and sovereignty, which, as he noted, Serbia knows from its own experience have been endangered and repeatedly called into question over recent decades.

“It is equally important that, as a country firmly committed to the principles upon which the United Nations itself was established over previous decades as a forum for conflict resolution, Serbia clearly raise its voice against violations of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of all states, in support of respect for international public law, against wars, and in favor of stability and cooperation among nations. These are the values for which Serbia stands,” Đurić stated.

The head of Serbian diplomacy also announced that the delegation he is leading will hold a series of important meetings in New York tomorrow.

“I also expect to meet with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, which completes the broader picture of President Vučić’s historic visit that has unfolded on multiple levels. One Serbian state delegation is in Beijing, we also had a party delegation led by the president of the Serbian Progressive Party, Miloš Vučević, as well as these discussions, meetings, and today’s address before the Security Council here in New York,” Đurić pointed out.

According to him, this is an important day for affirming Serbia’s position that international law must prevail over particular interests, that the use of force in international relations is unacceptable, and that peace is a universal value upon which global economic stability, progress, and security rest.

“There is no need to reinvent the wheel. International laws, regulations, charters, and principles already exist, and humanity arrived at them through great hardship as a civilization. What is required now is that we reaffirm them together. These are the principal objectives of our mission here in New York,” Foreign Minister Marko Đurić concluded.
