Đurić: “Ložionica” represents a strategic vision for advancing the overall capacities of our society

21. May 2025.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Marko Đurić, visited today the "Ložionica" Creative Industries and Innovation Center, currently under construction within the Belgrade Waterfront complex.

During the visit, Chargé d'Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade Alexander Titolo and Director of “Ložionica” Ana Ilić presented to Minister Đurić the key phases of the construction works, core features, and intended purposes of this unique complex, including the future American Resource Center (ARC) to be housed within its premises.

Minister Đurić expressed deep appreciation for what he saw, comparing today’s modern and revitalized space with the neglected area he remembers from his childhood.

He emphasized that this site now stands as a powerful fusion of the traditions, history, and culture of the Serbian people with the spirit of progress.

“What we see in ‘Ložionica’ symbolizes the future of Serbia—not only in the architectural sense, with its exceptional preservation and blending of heritage and modernity, but also in the deeper, symbolic message it conveys: Serbia’s firm resolve to move forward, to modernize its state institutions, to build a strong system that serves its citizens, and to develop partnerships with countries with whom we share a vision of the future,” stated Minister Đurić.

Congratulating those behind this important initiative, the Minister underscored its strategic relevance.

“I am glad to be here today, alongside colleagues from ‘Ložionica’, whom I commend for their outstanding work, as well as our colleagues from the Embassy of the United States, who, like the Government of Serbia, recognize that projects such as this are part of a broader strategic vision aimed at enhancing the overall capacities of our society,” Đurić said.

He noted that, once opened, this center will serve as a meeting point for Serbs, Americans, and all people of goodwill from around the world, a space where they can connect with the unique, resilient, and free spirit of Belgrade and Serbia, and contribute their economic, creative, and intellectual input.

“One particularly important aspect I would like to highlight is the economic potential of this project. It will become a hub where IT innovators, investors, public resources, and representatives of the creative industries converge. Therefore, this is not only a place to enjoy its aesthetic value, but also a space that will generate tangible benefits and new added value for the citizens of Serbia,” Đurić concluded.

The Minister expressed his gratitude to the United States for its dedicated support of the project and its participation through the American Resource Center (ARC) within “Ložionica.”

The strategic partnership between “Ložionica” and the ARC makes a significant contribution to realizing the project’s vision, which unites art, technology, business, and science, and is envisioned as a dynamic space for youth creativity and innovation.

The renovation of the historic “Ložionica” building—a former railway depot built over a century ago—has been fully financed by the Government of the Republic of Serbia, with reconstruction works commencing in 2023.
