Kozarev in Miami confers with County and Airport officials on a new era of cooperation

27. May 2025.
The Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Dušan Kozarev, met today in Miami with Emir Pineda, Director of Marketing and Business Development at Miami International Airport, and Gerard Philippeaux, Executive Director for Trade of Miami-Dade County.

During the meeting, the recent statements by President of the Republic Aleksandar Vučić and the official announcements by Air Serbia regarding the expected launch of a direct flight between Belgrade and Miami were welcomed. This development, combined with the planned establishment of a Serbian Consulate General in Florida, was seen as a package that would build upon the progress made during the tenure of Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić at the Embassy in Washington and would help usher Serbian–U.S. relations into a new, more dynamic era.

Numerous opportunities were recognized for intensified cooperation between Miami and Florida on one side, and Belgrade and Serbia on the other, thanks to their ambitious economies and strategic geographic positions. These opportunities include stronger business ties between companies from both countries and beyond, as well as the added value of the direct flight connecting the Balkans with the Caribbean and Latin America.

It was noted that there is room for the export of Serbian food and agricultural products to the U.S. and Caribbean markets, faster air transport of goods from the region to the Balkans and the EU, and closer cooperation in fields such as information technology, biomedicine, and sports.

Given that the United States will host the FIFA World Cup next year—with some matches to be held in Florida, including Miami—and that Serbia is preparing to host over one hundred countries at Expo 2027, the potential for further strengthening of ties was acknowledged. Miami and Florida also expressed interest in having a dedicated presence at this prestigious global event, which will be hosted by Belgrade.
