Kozarev confers with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala and His Deputy

28. Nov 2025.
During his visit to Guatemala City, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dušan Kozarev met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala, Carlos Ramiro Martínez Alvarado, and a delegation of the Ministry headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs María Luisa Ramírez Coronado.

The two sides reaffirmed the friendly relations rooted in a 143-year tradition since the mutual establishment of diplomatic ties, noting full alignment on key issues—particularly their shared commitment to international law. It was underscored that Guatemala adamantly supports Serbia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the status of Kosovo and Metohija within Serbia’s constitutional framework.

Both interlocutors welcomed the upcoming entry into force of the agreement on visa-free travel for holders of ordinary passports, which is expected to follow shortly upon the completion of the remaining technical procedures on the Guatemalan side. In this context, it was emphasized that visa liberalization will create opportunities for deeper mutual understanding through tourism and youth-oriented initiatives, such as the scholarships Serbia offers within the “World in Serbia” program.

A range of topics of mutual interest was discussed, including strengthening cooperation in the fields of economy, culture, education, defence, telecommunications, and further links between cities and regions (one of the streets in Guatemala City bears the name of Nobel laureate Ivo Andrić). The two sides agreed to intensify dialogue between the ministries, with particular focus on training through diplomatic academies.

Kozarev conveyed to the Guatemalan Foreign Minister an invitation from Minister Marko Đurić to visit Serbia, expressing confidence that Guatemala’s participation will contribute to the success of Expo 2027.
