Jovanović at the Conference “Equal, Safe, Empowered”

The State Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Nevena Jovanović, participated in the conference “Equal, Safe, Empowered”, marking the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. The event was organized by the Office of the Minister without Portfolio responsible for coordinating activities in the field of gender equality, prevention of violence against women, and the economic and political empowerment of women, Tatjana Macura.

The conference, opened by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr. Đuro Macut, featured a panel titled “Safe”, moderated by State Secretary Jovanović. The panelists included: United Nations Resident Coordinator in Serbia, Matilda Mordt; Ambassador of Canada, Michèle Cameron; Ambassador of France, Florence Ferreri; Deputy Head of Mission of Italy, Carlotta Colli; and the World Health Organization representative in Serbia, Fabio Scano.

Jovanović emphasized the importance of international cooperation as a key pillar in building a strong, coordinated, and humane institutional response to violence against women. She noted that the conference represents yet another confirmation of our collective commitment to creating a society that provides protection, support, and dignity to every woman.

Panel participants discussed examples of good practice and current challenges, stressing the importance of multisectoral cooperation and the application of international standards.

They commended Serbia’s efforts to improve the protection and status of women, children, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups, as well as the results achieved so far, expressing openness and readiness to continue exchanging experiences and strengthening cooperation with the relevant Serbian institutions in this field.
