Jovanović Attends Friends of the Western Balkans Meeting in New York

Held on the margins of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, the meeting focused on current developments in the region’s European integration process, with particular emphasis on the progressive integration of the Western Balkans into specific European Union policies and mechanisms, as well as on strengthening regional cooperation and connectivity across a range of areas.

Particular attention was devoted to regional security and the importance of closer cooperation among regional, European and international partners in safeguarding stability and security across Europe.

Jovanović emphasised that Serbia remains firmly committed to European Union membership and supports progressive integration as a means of enabling citizens across the region to experience tangible benefits of EU integration already during the accession process. She stressed, however, that progressive integration must serve as a pathway towards full membership rather than as an alternative to it, underscoring the importance of maintaining a clear objective and a credible European perspective.

The participants reaffirmed their shared commitment to moving this process forward and translating political support into tangible results that will contribute to greater stability and prosperity, while bringing the region closer to the European Union.
