Havana: Date for establishing diplomatic relations between Serbia and Cuba agreed

20. Oct 2021.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to Cuba, Danilo Pantović, met with the Director of the Directorate for Europe at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Gisela Rivera.

On that occasion, Rivera handed the Serbian ambassador a note – the response of the Cuban side, which made 4 November the official date of establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries.

After a joint audit of the diplomatic archives of Serbia and Cuba, it was concluded that the two countries began diplomatic relations on 4 November 1902, through correspondence between the then King of Serbia, Aleksandar Obrenović, and the President of Cuba, Tomás Estrada Palma.

The interlocutors pointed out that Serbia is one of the few countries with which Cuba has established relations since its inception (gaining independence), and that next year we will celebrate 120 years of cooperation, which will be marked by a series of activities.
