For holders of national passports and other travel documents: Visa is required

For holders of diplomatic and official passports: No visas required for visits up to 90 days within period of 180 days


ENTERING AND LEAVING THE COUNTRY
For obtaining a visa and other information, it is necessary to contact the Embassies of São Tomé and Príncipe in Belgium or Portugal. A passport must be valid for at least 6 months and contain one blank page for the visa sticker.

No social security agreement has been concluded.


USEFUL INFORMATION

HEALTH SITUATION — Entry into São Tomé and Príncipe requires proof of vaccination against yellow fever. Hospitals and other medical facilities in São Tomé and Príncipe have limited capacity, and many medical conditions require treatment abroad. Adequate health insurance covering medical evacuation is recommended, as well as having sufficient funds to cover basic medical services (as some facilities do not accept credit or debit cards).

SECURITY SITUATION — Security in São Tomé and Príncipe is relatively good and the risk of incidents is generally low, although robberies may occur. In this regard, it is recommended to take care of valuables and money and, where possible, leave them in the hotel.

TRANSPORT — There are two airports in São Tomé and Príncipe: one on São Tomé Island – São Tomé International Airport (TMS), and the other on Príncipe Island – Príncipe Airport (PCP).
To rent a vehicle (rent-a-car), an international driving permit is required. Most roads are in poor condition, especially outside the capital. Driving at night is not recommended.
Minibus transport is mainly used by the local population, while foreign nationals are advised to use taxis (preferably arranged through hotel accommodation).

The national currency is the dobra (Db). International credit and debit cards can be used in better hotels and restaurants, and it is advisable to check in advance whether they are accepted. Cash can be withdrawn from a limited number of ATMs. Money transfers can be made via Western Union and other services.
