USEFUL INFORMATION

HEALTH SITUATION – Vaccines are not required. Only use bottled water for drinking and cooking. Fresh salads should be avoided due to amoebae. Hand hygiene should be maintained at a high level due to the risk of yellow fever. Extreme climate conditions should be kept in mind, such as temperatures above 50 degrees with high humidity.

SECURITY SITUATION – The situation in Bahrain is generally safe. It is necessary to observe tradition and customs. Breaking them is considered immoral and is punishable.  It is not permitted to consume food or beverages, or to smoke in public places during Ramadan.

Furthermore, public displays of affection between the sexes should be avoided. Women should pay particular attention and dress so that all body parts other than their heads are covered. They need to avoid going to public beaches alone, or moving on foot or by taxi alone during evening hours.

TRANSPORT — The Kingdom of Bahrain is the smallest island country in the Persian Gulf. The international airport is located in the city of Manama, maritime transport is well developed, unlike railway transport. An international driving permit is required for driving a motor vehicle.

Causing a traffic accident under the influence of alcohol is treated as a severe criminal offence. Public transport is underdeveloped. Taxis are mainly used, and they are cheap.

OTHER — The national currency of Bahrain is the Bahrain dinar, its exchange rate in January 2021 amounting to 1 BHD = $2.65. The use of payment cards issued by Serbian banks is not possible. Hotel accommodation and restaurants are expensive, as are medical services.

The living standard is adapted to the needs of its own population, and tourism is still insufficiently developed.
